In January 2026, the co-sponsors of the United States Medical Licensing Examination® (USMLE®), the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) and NBME, centralized all USMLE service functions. As part of these plans, USMLE Step exam services formerly provided to international medical students and graduates (IMGs) by ECFMG transitioned to FSMB. This change means that all USMLE Step exam service functions, including exam registration, score report delivery, and customer service, are managed by FSMB for IMGs.
As part of this service transition, ECFMG no longer provides USMLE performance data to international medical schools. In 2026, the USMLE program will assess whether reporting and related services for international medical schools will continue. Updates will be provided as they become available.
